Solo Perspectives
-
My trajectory as a primary solo artist has offered me an introspective journey through these last ten years. Despite the numerous challenges and decisions through and around dance, I still choose to be in relationship with it. Solo has been my modality to consider who I am in any given stage of life either knowingly or subconsciously. It has been a therapy. It has been difficult. It has been a conduit to many conversations. It has allowed me to share honestly who I am through performance or research. Unlimited by the potentiality of the self, I now wish to investigate this trajectory at another level.
I seek to craft experiences for others where I am not on the dance floor. Support, listen, push, inquire, reflect, share, etc. are manners in which residencies have offered me. At times, I questioned my own role within; as truly being deserving, what my purpose is in those environments, how I have benefited, and how there is room for improvement. In continuous learning and as far as these funds can support, I offer “Solo Perspectives”.

•What does a solo practice mean/look like to you? Where does it fit at this stage in your career/life?
•Tell me who you are. What identities are present, do you navigate, are unfamiliar with?
•How do you see yourself as a part/apart from others?
Note: Solo process requires decision making, interpretation, and reinvention. Apply this to how you approach these questions. Choose the length, format, your own order in answering these prompts, and/or something else you feel is integral to share.
