Rehearsals, work, planning, meetings, creating, saying “yes”, and then realizing I needed to say “no”. The challenge has not been to do several things, but rather to genuinely and effectively engage/disengage when needed. I may not always be available, but it does not deter how I may feel.

“You crossed my mind. Hope you are doing well.”“I’d love to hang out, but I’m a little overwhelmed.”“I haven’t forgotten. Let’s circle back when we are both available.”
Sending or receiving these small impactful texts/voice message has meant mutual interest and care (in my experience recently).

I appreciate those who express what they need, what isn’t clear, or when things are uncomfortable. In learning to communicate my own boundaries I am also aware of the equal importance in listening to others. This has been the interpersonal dance recently — in an actual dance.

Continually interested in pushing myself, I take what I have learned in this and other rehearsal processes by applying it in my own creative work. As hectic as January was, I found energy with new collaborators for a new work in June of this year. I am humbled to share a program with another community artist (tbd), and eternally grateful to Red Eye Theater for commissioning and entrusting my vision.
