You may know my solo practice emerged from being disconnected to community, from lack of funds, and from committing to the art form of dance. It has meant a lot of self-reflective, isolated work where I’ve had to motivate myself to go and do the work. The discipline to make it happen knowing no one else will do it for me. What I have and continue to learn is different ways to continue saying “yes” to this form while opening myself up to others in their process or inviting them into my own.

Since June, Noelle Awadallah, Dienae “D” Hunter, and Río Saúl García Ramírez have been in the “Solo Perspectives”* residency with access to MOVO** during their own self-defined time to create, rehearse, question, feel, re-start, etc. Anything they have been interested in exploring knowing a “product” is not a goal. As a group we have had check-ins to reflect on what solo practice means for them, who they are in any given moment, and what community means in relation to being “solo”. Now, we invite you to be part of the conversation as they share where they are in process. Please join us.
